The short answer: Canada is competitive internationally in a narrow set of categories where climate, raw material or regulation gives it a real advantage. The Canadian dollar usually makes those categories cheaper for you than the domestic equivalent at home. Shipping is straightforward. Duties depend on your own country's de minimis threshold, and Canadian sales tax should be zero on an exported order.

Icewine and cold climate goods
Canada is one of very few countries where grapes freeze on the vine reliably every year, which is why Canadian icewine is the world benchmark. The same logic applies to outerwear, wool and winter gear engineered for real winters rather than adapted to them.
Maple, hardwood and slow growth timber
Canada produces the overwhelming majority of the world's maple syrup under a regulated grading system, and northern slow growth maple, walnut and cherry make furniture and kitchen goods that simply do not exist from warmer forests.
Indigenous art and craft
First Nations, Inuit and Metis makers produce work that cannot be authentically sourced anywhere else on earth. Buy from Indigenous owned businesses directly so the value stays in the community.

Duties and de minimis
Every country sets a value below which imports arrive duty free. Above it, your own country's duty and sales tax are collected on arrival, usually by the carrier. Ask the seller for the HS code and country of origin if you need to calculate precisely before ordering.
Ordering well from abroad
Order early for anything handmade, because Canadian makers batch rather than warehouse. Confirm whether the price includes shipping and whether duties are prepaid or collected on delivery. Prefer a tracked service, and ask about the wool, the wood species or the grade. A Canadian maker will answer that in detail.
Alcohol is the exception
Wine and spirits are regulated separately in almost every jurisdiction, and most Canadian wineries cannot ship internationally at all. Plan on buying those in person or through an importer in your country.
